The practitioner should be:
- Supportive of exclusive and extended breastfeeding. They do not recommend solids to be given before (approx.) six months of age and do not recommend supplementing with formula unless as a last resort. They do not suggest that a night-nursing baby or toddler will get cavities or is "just using you as a pacifier".
- Flexible regarding vaccinations. They should work individually with each parent/child to determine which (if any) vaccines are needed and the timing. They do not insist on an arbitrary vaccine schedule. They are respectful of parents' wishes.
- They treat each family with respect regarding their decisions.
